Blog Post Week 9

What did you learn this week?  This week I Learned a lot more information on mutations. I learned that Mutations are the changes in genetic material that provide new genetic variation required for evolution. I also learned about another kind of mutation and that is point mutation. Point Mutations are changes in single nucleotides of a specific gene's DNA sequence. I learned there are three main types of mutations which are deletions, insertions, and substitutions. Deletions are when a nucleotide is left out of DNA when it is duplicated, which I found to be the trickiest one to navigate through understanding. I learned how all three types are involved in the process of navigating through and identifying different DNA genes. I learned that protein changes lead to overall sequence changes and leading to phenotypic changes in the end through mutations. I learned just how involved and heavy mutations are and all the changes they affect and things they end up leading through due to...

Blog Post Week 8

This week in lab, we talked a lot on ideas of DNA, DNA Structure, and DNA Characteristics. I took away a solid and easy to remember definition that DNA is a bunch of atoms stuck together. It represents the wide molecular blueprint for living things and represents a double helix structure. DNA controls and represents wide ranges of natural and human caused factors that make up these organisms is what I learned. I learned that the specific genes that make up the mother and father, will later combine to form different phenotype and genotypes that represent individuals DNA Structure and how each individual is made up. I was able to relate what I learned today to what I already knew by deepening my overall understanding in the end. I now understand deeply how parent's genes individually work together to make out to what an individual's phenotype would make out to be. By using hands on application of information related to genes and DNA info, I was able to apply previous knowledge to...

Blog Post Week 6

This week in lab, I learned all about organisms and their environment and what things make this up. We also spoke a good amount on sea turtles, and I quickly learned about their lifespan. I learned that about 1 in 1,000 turtles survive to adulthood. That really surprised be because the chances are not super high! Going into and talking about sea turtles and their lifestyle was also very eye opening and see just how many of their predator's affect their daily life and what they do. I believe that human actions can greatly affect sea turtles. I formulated the idea after class that we cannot dictate the natural factors and what happens in that regard, but I believe that we as human's can do our part in putting turtle's in more safe spots. We also touched on three dimensional learning what again, and the worksheet we did consisted of drawing, and writing about the 3 dimensions. This came to my attention just how greatly the three dimensions can bring out the better in student l...
